As a 6 foot tall woman I have had my fair share of disappointment from the clothes shopping experience. Over the years I have turned that disappointment into improvisation and have found several creative ways to  make ill fitting garments work for my long limbs.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to turn a dress into a top!

I cannot tell you how many times I have tried a cute dress on only to discover that one sneeze could cause an exposé of epic proportions. Instead of begrudgingly returning that mini dress  to the rack, I simply see if I can make it into a top.

This was the case with a yellow cape dress I discovered online. I have been lusting after cape dresses for the past year, especially after seeing Garcelle Beauvais in this Zara Cape Dress at the Tom Ford’s Cocktail Event.

After receiving the dress in the mail and trying it on I was extremely disappointed that it was far too short. It was too cute to pass up however, so I threw a pair of shorts underneath it and kept it rolling.

I paired the dress with yellow Nine West Cuff Heels (purchased over a year ago, similar here, here and here), a Michael Kors Tortoise Watch (similar here and here) and Gold Bangle (similar here).

So remember Tall Fashionistas, next time you find that dress that is way too short, just turn it into a blouse!
