I decided to dress up for The Meet Your Tall Sisters Brunch hosted by Tall Society. On my way home I drove by this awesome mural near Union Market that read Follow Your Heart.
What a fitting quote. I’ve been struggling with doing such a thing as of late and I’m finally making moves towards doing just that.
I’ve had this ankara skirt by Chez Kevito for 2 years. I snagged the last of this fabric when I realized it was the same used by Stella Jean in an ankara skirt for her collection. The skirt Chez Kevito made is a dead ringer for the Stella Jeans sans the red trim.
Once again Ankara Streets delivered on this African Print Mini Dress. The dress is a modification of the Z’Lia Wrap Dress. I knew the Barbados weather would be hot so I asked for shortened sleeves and hemline.
The dress features a brown, yellow and hot pink print. The wrap dress adjusts to fit any bustline and cinches in the waist. The dress features a skater skirt and I loved showing off my long legs in the mini length. I kept things minimal and paired the outfit with gold sandals.
Tall women are blessed with long legs which instantly make any outfit look elegant. If you got em flaunt em ladies! The DC weather has been really crazy where one day it’s 78 degree and the following day it’s 35 degree days. Looking back at these photos I miss that tropical weather AND my tan!!
I love all things Ankara and my go to designer for African Print clothing is Chez Kevito. Whenever I go by her store there’s a new outfit I need to buy! During my last trip to her I discovered this gorgeous Dashiki Mini Skirt in a brilliant turquoise fabric. Dashiki fabric is actually called ‘Angelina’ fabric and its roots lie in Ghana. The print has comes in several colors and has been extremely popular over the last year.
The skirt featured a wide waistband which flatters any waist. I loved how Chez Kevito pleated the fabric to create a skater skirt effect. It was perfect for my tropical beach setting. I paired the outfit with a beige seamless bustier by Felina.
I added maroon lace up chunky heel sandals and blue mirrored aviator sunglasses to finish the look.
I love going to local designers like Chez Kevito because they can custom make garments to fit your frame and body type.
Today’s fashion feature is a fabulous Ankara Peplum and Shorts set by Ankara Streets.
Ankara Streets is a fabulous fashion line by local DC fashion designer and Youtube vlogger Jessica Thomas aka Jess the Dragoness. Ankara Streets designs African inspired garments with a uniquely urban american flare. I had the pleasure of meeting Jessica and she is gorgeous, talented and extremely professional.
Ankara Streets is the epitome of effortless “cool”, and we strongly believe in “letting your individuality speak for itself” – Jessica of Ankara Streets
I made an impromptu trip to Barbados and enlisted Ankara Streets to create a nautical version of the Whitney Peplum Top and Monqiue Shortsto complement my tropical beach setting. Not only did Ankara Streets deliver, they custom tailored the top and shorts for my taller frame!
I would definitely recommend Ankara Streetsus taller ladies who are looking for a custom unique piece. Definitely #tallgirlapproved
The skirt is made of a Vlisco Wax print fabric in a vibrant design. I am so pleased with the quality of Li Li’s craftsmanship. This skirt is extremely well made and lined with tulle petticoat to create a full skirt effect which I absolutely love!
I purchased this Ankara Romper from Demestiks NYC by Reuben Reuel last summer but with the crazy cold weather I haven’t had the opportunity to rock it. The weather in Washington, DC this weekend was 85 degrees!!! I guess spring said Bye Felicia!
I used the opportunity of warm weather to wear this colorful romper. The designer, Reuben Ruel, is an amazing New York based fashion designer whose designs have been worn by the likes of Beyonce.
The designer accommodated my request to custom make the romper to fit my tall frame. I have a long torso and legs and needed extra length in both areas. I sent my measurements and received the custom piece a few weeks later. It fit like a dream!
The African wax print fabric featured a colorful snake print and the playful colors will be great for the upcoming summer months.
It is fantastic when us tall women can find designers who can custom make clothing for us. Custom clothing may be a bit more expensive than off the rack but you will never be disappointed when you have a clothing item that was made to just fit you.
