Follow Your Heart – Ankara and Fringe

I decided to dress up for The Meet Your Tall Sisters Brunch hosted by Tall Society. On my way home I drove by this awesome mural near Union Market that read Follow Your Heart.

What a fitting quote. I’ve been struggling with doing such a thing as of late and I’m finally making moves towards doing just that.

ankara skirt

I’ve had this ankara skirt by Chez Kevito for 2 years. I snagged the last of this fabric when I realized it was the same used by Stella Jean in an ankara skirt for her collection. The skirt Chez Kevito made is a dead ringer for the Stella Jeans sans the red trim.

I finally got to wear the Edward Fringe Heel I purchased a few weeks ago from Shiekh Shoes .

An alternative to this heel is the Steve Madden Sassey

Ankara Streets African Print Mini Dress

Once again Ankara Streets delivered on this African Print Mini Dress. The dress is a modification of the Z’Lia Wrap Dress. I knew the Barbados weather would be hot so I asked for shortened sleeves and hemline.

ankara-mini-dressThe dress features a brown, yellow and hot pink print. The wrap dress adjusts to fit any bustline and cinches in the waist. The dress features a skater skirt and I loved showing off my long legs in the mini length. I kept things minimal and paired the outfit with gold sandals.

The DC weather has been really crazy where one day it’s 78 degree and the following day it’s 35 degree days. Looking back at these photos I miss that tropical weather AND my tan!!

Dashiki Mini Skirt by Chez Kevito

I love all things Ankara and my go to designer for African Print clothing is Chez Kevito. Whenever I go by her store there’s a new outfit I need to buy! During my last trip to her I discovered this gorgeous Dashiki Mini Skirt in a brilliant turquoise fabric. Dashiki fabric is actually called ‘Angelina’ fabric and its roots lie in Ghana. The print has comes in several colors and has been extremely popular over the last year.

The skirt featured a wide waistband which flatters any waist. I loved how Chez Kevito pleated the fabric to create a skater skirt effect. It was perfect for my tropical beach setting. I paired the outfit with a beige seamless bustier by Felina.

I added maroon lace up chunky heel sandals and blue mirrored aviator sunglasses to finish the look.

Ankara at The Washington Nationals Park

I headed over to the boardwalk near The Washington Nationals Park after a day in the city. It was a pretty chilly day but I felt like wearing my Ankara Print Midi Skirt that had been sitting in my closet all summer. I purchased this gorgeous skirt from an Etsy store called The African Shop. The store is currently down due to one of the owners, Christelle, being ill. Sending positive vibes and well wishes to this talented lady.

The skirt has an inner lining and the Dutch wax print fabric is naturally thick so it did provide good warmth and that was also the main reason I didn’t wear it during the warm summer.

I’m obsessed with any African print clothing and have been slowly collecting unique Dutch Wax Print fabric pieces.

The Tall Muse

I paired the skirt with my Nine West Kenie Sandal,  Calvin Klein Sleeveless  Tie Neck Blouse and my Gap Tall Academy Blazer.
