Today’s fashion feature is a fabulous Ankara Peplum and Shorts set by Ankara Streets.
Ankara Streets is a fabulous fashion line by local DC fashion designer and Youtube vlogger Jessica Thomas aka Jess the Dragoness. Ankara Streets designs African inspired garments with a uniquely urban american flare. I had the pleasure of meeting Jessica and she is gorgeous, talented and extremely professional.
Ankara Streets is the epitome of effortless “cool”, and we strongly believe in “letting your individuality speak for itself” – Jessica of Ankara Streets
I made an impromptu trip to Barbados and enlisted Ankara Streets to create a nautical version of the Whitney Peplum Top and Monqiue Shortsto complement my tropical beach setting. Not only did Ankara Streets deliver, they custom tailored the top and shorts for my taller frame!
I would definitely recommend Ankara Streetsus taller ladies who are looking for a custom unique piece. Definitely #tallgirlapproved
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Wear Art Meets Fashion Trunk Show and Exhibition presented by local DC fashion Designer Simply Cecily at the Nubian Hueman Boutique.
The Art Exhibit was presented by none other than Cecily’s mother Patricia Stewart and features unique African inspired 3D sculptures and paintings. Mrs Stewart is an established artist based in Chicago, IL and her inspiration for the showcase was East African elements and nature. I loved the mixed media pieces she presented and the showcase really complemented the Cecily’s fashion aesthetic.
While observing the artwork I was pleasantly surprised as gorgeous tall models entered the room in intricately designed clothing. Cecily mentioned that she thinks of herself as an artist first before a designer and it was clearly seen in her pieces.
Her use of pleating, draping and leaf like adornments to create wearable art was a breath of fresh air.
The showcase did not only include haute pieces but also Simply Cecily’s Ready To Wear designs and jewelry. I was very impressed with the attention to detail and the quality of the garments. These pieces are currently available at Nubian Huemanand are a must for the upcoming Spring and Summer months.
The line featured rompers, mini, midi and maxi dresses, and blazers all in an assortment of bold African wax print fabrics.
I fitted one of the dresses from the line which featured a flattering empire waist and A-Line skirt. The bold print flatters all complexions and I was pleasantly surprised that the length was appropriate for my 6 foot tall frame
This tall blogger left the trunk show and art exhibit extremely wowed. Simply Cecily, Patricia Stewart and Nubian Hueman did a fantastic job of showcasing some of DC’s finest art and fashion. I definitely will be rocking a few of Simply Cecily pieces this Spring and Summer. Weather I need you to hurry up and stay warm!
